The White Eyebrow Style of Chinese Martial Arts was developed by religious men who dwelt in temples and devoted themselves to spiritual studies, It was not until the 4th generation during a time of great upheavel, civil war and foreign invasion that it was permitted to be taught to the public. It was Great Grandmaster Cheung Lai-Chuen 張禮泉 of the 4th generation, in the 1920s who opened up the first Pak Mei Kuen schools in Guangzhaou, China and later taught the system in Hong Kong.
One of Great Grandmaser Cheung Lai-Chuen's early students was Master Ng Yiu. Master Ng Yiu was a senior disciple and an important fifth-generation figure in the White Eyebrow martial art. Lineage sources identify him as a native of Nanhai, Guangdong, who began studying under Great Grandmaster Cheung Lai-Chuen at about age fifteen and later taught in Guangzhou before following Grandmaster Cheung Lai-Chuen to Hong Kong in 1949.
He is remembered both as a Pak Mei instructor and as a herbal practitioner with a business in Sham Shui Po. His 1977 book, Pak Mei Tiger Fork, is a surviving published record of his weapons teaching. No reliable public source for his death date has been found. A fifth-generation Pak Mei source states that Ng was among Grandmaster Cheung Lai-Chuen's early students permitted to open a school under Grandmaster Cheung Lai-Chuen’s supervision in the second half of the 1920s. This places him among the generation that helped Pak Mei move from a smaller local network into a broader public teaching tradition. A branch biography says that Grandmaster Cheung Lai-Chuen appointed him to lead the first Lai-chuen Kung Fu Association branch on Kwei-tong Street in Guangzhou and that he also taught at a military academy. The same account describes the Lai-chuen organization as having eighteen Guangzhou branches.
Master Lam Hung of the 6th generation Pak Mei, a.k.a. William Lam was a disciple of Master Ng Yiu. He taught Pak Mei Kuen to my Sifu Simon Lui a.k.a. Lui Long Chun 雷龍春 of the 7th generation, starting in 1974 when they worked together in Toronto, Canada. I am of the 8th generation of the Pak Mei Pai.
